What Are Wrinkle Relaxing Injections?
Wrinkle relaxing injections, sometimes called BOTOXÒ, works by utilising a naturally found protein, Botulinum Toxin, in a safe and effective way to soften the intensity of the muscle contractions which create lines and wrinkles.
We specialise in natural-looking results and don’t promote the ‘frozen’ look; what you can expect from this treatment is for your existing lines and wrinkles to become softer and new lines can be prevented from forming or worsening in the treated area. You will still have some mobility of your facial muscles; however, the treated areas won’t have the intensity and strength of movement that they had prior to treatment.
Forehead frown lines and crows feet around the eyes are very popular treatment areas. Other treatments have evolved to allow for the more complex treatment of facial muscles such as improving the appearance of neck bands, also known as the platysmal bands, and helping to soften the masseter muscles which can help your jaw to look less bulky. Furthermore, Botulinum Toxin has been used to help control excessive sweating.
Depending on the strength of your muscles in the treatment area it may take more than one treatment to achieve your optimal results.
Indications that wrinkle relaxing injections may be right for you:
- You have fine lines and wrinkles
- You frown lines that are present when you’re not frowning
- You would like to subtly lift your brow
- You have crow’s feet
- You have visible neck bands
- You experience excessive underarm sweating, also known as axillary hyperhidrosis
- You have a bulky jawline which you’d like to soften
Botox near me prices?
It depends where in the UK you live. At our St. Albans skin clinic, which is in Hertfordshire, UK wrinkle relaxing injections are charged by the area and start at £205*.
In short, we are fairly and competitively priced but haven’t undersold our skills, high quality treatments and experience. We’re proud of our prices because not only is the treatment included in them but also our decades of medical training, knowledge, experience, and high-quality products; this translates into advanced treatment techniques, tangible results, safe practitioners, and safe treatments.
Are there any side effects to wrinkle relaxing injections?
In the quantities used for cosmetic or aesthetic practices, botulinum toxin has been proven to have a great safety profile. There are known possible side effects, as with any medical-aesthetic or aesthetic treatment but with experienced medical practitioners and approved treatment products the likelihood of these is further reduced.
Consultations are an important part of the treatment process in allowing you to understand the treatment and to establish if the benefits of the treatment are outweighed by any possible side effects.
During a consultation your characteristics, such as brow position and muscle activity, will be assessed. Your medical practitioner will be able to discuss whether this treatment is appropriate for you, as well as any suitable alternative treatments.
Your practitioner will discuss any possible side effects, questions you may have and any aftercare you should adhere to prior to you having treatment.
Are wrinkle relaxing injections painful?
The wrinkle relaxing treatment has a very low level of discomfort associated with it. Our patients tolerate the treatment very well and liken the sensation to a small scratch from the needle in the treatment site.
How will I look after wrinkle relaxing injections?
Most patients find that they look no different immediately after this treatment. You may have small pink marks at the site of the injections however this does not usually last more than 30 minutes in our experience.
You should not expect to start seeing results of your treatment immediately as it can take two weeks to see your full results.
Are Botox top ups free?
We will have invited you to make an appointment to return to the clinic two to four weeks after your treatment at this time so that we can assess your results and if necessary, your practitioner can ‘top up’ your treatment if any small tweaks are required. There is no extra fee for this service at our St. Albans skin clinic.
Botox – is it safe?
Yes, it is safe in the small quantities we use it in; a few billionths of a gram which is dissolved in saline.
Some patients talk about it being a poison but this is not quite true; in large quantities it is toxic but is widely considered safe to use for aesthetic concerns such as wrinkles through to medical problems including excessive sweating, leaking bladders and eye squints. In fact, the medical community consider it so safe as it has a paediatric licence for some conditions.
Did you know that botulinum toxin isn’t the only toxic substance we use in medicine? Arsenic trioxide has a medical use as an anti-cancer agent; Captopril (antihypertensive drug) was developed from snake venoms; and Byetta (a type 2 diabetes drug) was developed from the saliva of a venomous lizard called the Gila monster… As you can see, it’s all about the quantity being used!
Are Botox and fillers the same thing?
No, but many do get confused about what the differences are between Botox and filler treatments. They are both injectable treatments and can complement each other very well in some cases, but really that’s where the similarity ends.

Are wrinkle relaxing injections and Botox the same thing?
In short, yes! Wrinkle relaxing injections, muscle relaxing injections, anti-ageing injections are all the same treatment which uses botulinum toxin. Botox is simply a brand name for a botulinum toxin product.
How many injections will I have?
There is no set number of injections per treatment or per area, no one person is exactly the same. You may not even require the same number or pattern of injections at each treatment as your muscle movement may be influenced from your previous treatment.
Each treatment is as unique as the individual patient. It is important to note that as we age our requirements and results from this treatment may change, even in those patients who have had this treatment for a long time.
Are Botox results instant?
No, it can take up to two weeks for you to see your result, however some people may appreciate results sooner than this.
How long do wrinkle relaxing injections last?
The average patient finds that treatment lasts approximately three months. Some patients notice longer lasting results the longer they maintain the treatment.
Although treatment can last three months, it’s important to note that peak results are reached around six weeks following treatment and from there your natural muscle activity slowly returns; the treated muscles are usually no longer under the influence of treatment by 13 weeks onwards. At this time, should you wish, you would require another treatment.
Factors that can reduce the duration of results include metabolic rate, high levels of physical activity, smoking and stress. It is important to note that as we age our requirements and results from this treatment may change, even in those patients who have had this treatment for a long time.
We are all unique, so this is a guide only. Patient results and experience will vary.
Will I look ‘frozen’ after the wrinkle relaxing injections?
At our St. Albans skin clinic, we specialise in natural-looking results which soften the appearance of your lines and wrinkles whilst allowing you to continue making facial expressions.
Our experienced practitioners are cautious not to over treat you to avoid the ‘frozen’ look that so many people wish to avoid.
Do I have to keep having wrinkle relaxing injections?
No. If you decide that you don’t want to maintain your results you do not have to continue having treatment. The results will gradually wear off and you will look the same as you did before the treatment, although you will have had the benefit of the lines not deepening for the duration of your treatment.

“Most pleasing results I have had over 10 years of having visited a number of local aestheticians since I began treatment for fillers and Botox. Natural-looking results that have really made a visible difference without being at all obvious. Thank you Skin to love!” – Denise

“I went to the Skin to Love Clinic after I’d had treatment for Breast Cancer. Although inside I felt very positive about everything, I looked anxious and drawn after 6 months of chemo, surgery and radiotherapy. Over time they have eased some of the more intense worry lines and my confidence has soared. They’re warm and friendly, and they are experts at what they do. I look forward to my visits to the clinic to see them and greatly value the positive impact those visits have had on how I feel about myself.” – Amy
I cannot express how happy I am with the treatment I’ve had (Botox). It’s absolutely fantastic. Both Natalia and Jane are incredibly knowledgeable and professional. They completely put me at ease and I can’t recommend them highly enough. – Shirin
A friend visiting who I hadn’t seen for 6 months was so blown away by my ‘youthful’ appearance she made me drop her off at the skin to love clinic for an urgent consultation!! Thank you Jane and team!!! – Cloudagh
“Great Experience. My second visit and Natalia was very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Would highly recommend.” – Banee
“Very professional and gave me time/space to feel comfortable plus answered all questions, double checked I am satisfied” – Ewa
There was no pressure and the staff were very reassuring and happy to answer lots of questions as I was convinced I would have an allergic reaction.
I did it! It felt too easy – the consultation was longer than the procedure, which was painless. I thought I would have puncture wounds or swelling as I walked onto the high street but there was no evidence that I’d had anything done. The family haven’t noticed a thing but I feel like I can look in the mirror again and feel more confident. I will definitely have this procedure again as it looks natural and I can still raise my eyebrows as I wanted to look natural and not frozen or startled. Thank you. – Louisa
